New Bern, North Carolina

Local art you can
actually take home.

Original watercolors, hand-finished art cards and prints — painted here, by people who live here.

The shop

Something real, for eight dollars

Most "local art" is a print of a print. Everything here was painted by hand by somebody with a studio in this county.

Hand-finished art cards

$8 small · $10 large

Each card is finished by hand, so no two are the same. Blank inside — a card, or a small framed painting. People frame them.

Founding artist
Signed watercolor of a bird on a flowering branch by Jean Richards

Jean Richards

Painting since 1998, teaching a great deal longer than that. Butterflies, wildflowers, and the places she has traveled — Tuscany, Paris, a Mediterranean hillside.

"My dream is to travel, teach, and be paid to do it."

Before the brushes there was a florist shop she built herself, a career in radiology, and a course she wrote called Selling With Integrity. She has taught art to first-graders, to women in prison, and to both of her great-granddaughters.

For artists

Are you an artist looking for a shop window?

This gallery was built for one artist and it was always meant to hold more. If you paint, throw, carve or print — in Craven County or anywhere else — there is room here. Local artists get the front page; everyone else gets the same terms.

One

You keep your work

Your copyright, your prices, your paintings. Nothing is consigned and nothing is held.

Two

You keep your money

The checkout pays into your own account. We invoice a commission; we never deduct it.

Three

15%, not 50%

Only on what this gallery sells. A bricks-and-mortar gallery takes forty to fifty.

Four

Nothing up front

No listing fee, no booth rent, no minimum. If it sells nothing, it costs you nothing.
